Police Log: 6 Cars Swiped from Dealer; 5 Robbers Wanted; 2 Mad Men Speeding; 1 FedEx Truck in Hit-and-Run

Visions of killer roommates danced in head of man on Christmas Eve, and more from Dec. 19 to 25.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Dec. 19 to 25 as released by the Fremont Police Department.

Wednesday, Dec. 25

  • Drunk driving hit-and-run. A 23-year-old man was arrested for a DUI hit-and-run after he crashed his car into a pole at Mission Boulevard and Driscoll Road, shearing off a fire hydrant. The vehicle was abandoned when police arrived. The driver was located at a Viento Drive home.
  • A juvenile male motorist was arrested for DUI at 1:42 a.m. at Fremont Boulevard and Central Avenue.
  • Holiday high. A man and woman were arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of drugs after police stopped their car for a rolling disturbance at Paseo Padre Parkway and Thornton Avenue.
Tuesday, Dec. 24
  • His (sleeping) roommates were trying to kill him. A man called to report his roommates were threatening to kill him with a knife. Officers arrived to the Central Avenue address and found the caller -- extremely intoxicated -- in the courtyard of the complex. Officers checked his apartment and found all occupants were sleeping peacefully with no knowledge of the incident. The 33-year-old caller was arrested for public intoxication.
  • Reckless driver collides with bus. A possible kidnapping was reported by numerous callers on Argyle Court, who saw two speeding vehicles leave the area and a female yelling that she was being taken against her will. The vehicles were seen traveling in excess of 100 mph on I-880, and exiting at Auto Mall Parkway where one collided with an AC Transit bus. A kidnapping had not occurred -- an adult brother was chasing his adult sister and her boyfriend as he disapproved of their relationship. The brother doing the chasing, a 23-year-old, was arrested for reckless driving and child endangerment, as he had his small child the car. The other driver, a male, 25, was arrested for reckless driving, as well.
  • Three vehicles stolen over from Fremont Toyota were located in Oakland by Oakland Police Department and Oakland California Highway Patrol.  None of the vehicles were stripped, burned or damaged.
  • FedEx hit-and-run? A driver of a Federal Express delivery truck reportedly fled after striking a light pole at the intersection of Converse and Mintwood streets causing downed power lines. The case is under investigation.
Monday, Dec. 23
  • Drunk and unruly. A citizen called about a loud group of males hanging out in front of the condo complex located on the 41000 block of Farallon Common.  Officers arrived and arrested a 20-year-old man for being drunk in public. The subject kicked an officer and attempted to kick out the patrol car window upon arriving at Fremont Jail.  He was placed in the wrap device with the assistance of other officers, and transported to Santa Rita Jail, Dublin.
  • Union City home destroyed in two-alarm laze. A total of 16 people were displaced, including five children. Details here.
Sunday, Dec. 22
  • Felon hits house. A man, 46, wanted for firearm-related offenses was spotted driving a pickup truck near Washington Boulevard and Starr Street. Upon seeing police, he turned into a nearby neighborhood and crashed into the side of a residence. No one was injured; the man was arrested.
  • Six vehicles reported stolen at Fremont Toyota.  Story here.
Saturday, Dec. 21
  • Dog shot dead after vicious attacks in Niles neighborhood. Article here.
  • A DUI crash was logged at Washington Boulevard and Driscoll Road. A 52-year-old man was arrested for the non-injury collision.
  • Robbery was reported at Walmart on Albrae Street. A loss-prevention worker, who attempted to detain a suspect for theft, was threatened with being “cut” by the suspect who fled north on Albrae towards Stevenson Boulevard.
Friday, Dec. 20
  • Welfare check saves man's life. At 9:20 a.m., officers went to the 40900 block of High Street to check on a man with past medical conditions that made his co-workers fearful. Police could hear a television and/or radio, but there was no answer. Officers forced their way inside where they found the man suffering a medical emergency. He was taken to a local hospital, and would likely not have survived even a few more minutes had officers not entered.
Thursday, Dec. 19
  • Young man passes away from health complications. Police were called to a residence on Greer Court to investigate the death of 21-year-old man, who suffered from health complications. The death appeared to be from natural causes due to the male’s health condition.
