This Weekend: Half Marathon in Niles

The half marathon and 5K race will be held this Sunday in downtown Niles. Registration is still open.

Hundreds of people will be storming through Downtown Niles this weekend for the NorCal Half Marathon and 5K.

The race will be held this Sunday, Feb. 24 with registration opening at 6:30 a.m. The half marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 7:40 a.m. The event wraps up with a "Finish Line Festival" at noon.

According to the event website, the half marathon travels a flat course that begins and ends in historic Niles near the Niles Plaza. The course will take participants through downtown, around Quarry Lakes, down the Alameda Creek Trail and back to Niles.

Registration is still open and participants will be able to sign up on race day, according to the website.

Fees for the half marathon are $70 if you register by tomorrow, Feb. 22, and $75 to sign up on race day.

Fees for the 5K are $30 if you register by tomorrow and $35 on race day.

Community members are also invited to a free public packet pickup expo on Saturday, Feb. 23. The event will showcase the latest active gear and health care products.

Area residents are also encouraged to hang out in Niles on race day.

According to organizers, there will be free food and music.
