Update: Baby's Three-Story Fall Was Accidental, Police Say

Police say the 11-month-old girl remains in the hospital but regained consciousness before being admitted to a local trauma center.

Updated Thursday, Nov. 8, 11:40 a.m.

A baby girl was hospitalized after falling out of a third-story window on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

While the condition of the 11-month-old baby has not been released by hospital personnel, she was conscious before being airlifted to the local trauma center, said Fremont Police Spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

Paramedics, firefighters and police responded to the 800 block of Walnut Avenue around 2 p.m. Wednesday after a woman called to report that her baby had fallen from the window of their home, Bosques said.

The child was drinking from a sippy cup near the ledge of the window with her mother right next to her when it's believed she leaned onto the window screen, which gave way, Bosques said.

She fell three stories into some bushes, said Bosques, who explained that the multi-unit complex the family lives in is made up of a garage with two stories above it.

Police have determined that the incident was accidental, Bosques added.

"We are considering it accidental...not a criminal act," she said.
