150-Acre Site May Be Home to Retail, Office and Manufacturing

Officials say the area will be a great opportunity to expand the Auto Mall area.

The shadow of NUMMI’s closing and the Solyndra meltdown are slowly fading as Fremont is once again on the up and up.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the latest in Fremont’s recent growth spurt will come in the form of a 150-acre site near Interstate 880 and Auto Mall Parkway, not far from the Pacific Commons Shopping Center.

The land, owned by Cisco Systems, was purchased by Southern California’s Integral Communities, which is currently working on developments in Newark, Milpitas and Hayward, among other cities throughout the state.

Though nothing is yet set in stone, the massive chunk of undeveloped land will become home to office buildings, manufacturing plants and retail centers, the Mercury News reports.

The real estate company says it wants to cater to Fremont’s needs.

“We want to listen to what Fremont wants, what the constituents want, and then go out and execute on what people want,” a representative from the firm told the Mercury News

Meanwhile, officials have high hopes for the new development sites. Fremont Economic Development Director Kelly Kline told reporters that the site will create jobs, provide an opportunity to expand the Auto Mall area, and contribute to the overall development of the Warm Springs area, which is slated to open a BART extension in 2015.
