Hundreds came out Wednesday to the official unveiling of the new Fremont Skate Park -- a 25,000-sq.-ft. concrete playground located at Fremont's Central Park.

While the skaters were abundant at the grand opening, many from the community also came out to support Fremont's bold recreational endeavor.

"I'm just enjoying all of the people skating and a good time at the park," said Alejandra Pulido. Pulido came out with her cousins and 1-year-old daughter, Julyeth. "My daughter loves everything about the park," she added.

Designed with input from local skaters, the skate park boasts features for beginners and experts, kids and adults -- including a 12-foot deep professional-size bowl (swimming pool), a plaza, rails, a “snake” run for slalom-style skating, a street course and more.

In a previous interview, former pro skater Jordan Richter touted the park as one of the best in the state. "It's definitely a 10 on the scale," he said.

The grand opening also included live art demos by Sean Chilson, Jenn Ponci and Meme of Few and Far Women, and David Platford. Mayor Bill Harrison led a ribbon cutting ceremony, which we unfortunately missed by a few minutes. We did, however, arrive in time to catch the skate demo.
