Rep. Honda to Hold Conference Wednesday on Expanding Social Security Benefits

Honda will call on challenger Ro Khanna to support expanding Social Security benefits.

If you’ve been paying attention to local politics, you know that the race between Rep. Mike Honda (D-Fremont) and challenger Ro Khanna is a big one.

Among the big issues for residents in California’s 17th Congressional District is Social Security benefits — at least according to Honda.

On Wednesday, Honda will hold a press conference at noon in Fremont to release a new poll showing that expanding Social Security is popular with local voters.

Honda will be joined at the meeting by Social Security recipients, California Alliance for Retired Americans treasurer Tom Rankin, Fremont Mayor Bill Harrison and other local officials.

Wednesday’s event is one of many across the country led by a national coalition to push for the expansion of Social Security benefits. Honda is among those pushing the proposal in the House of Representatives.

The coalition has already collected more than 395,000 signatures to call on Congress to expand benefits. For more info on the topic, visit ExpandSocialSecurity.com.
