Fremont police said today they are still seeking a hit-and-run driver who struck a bicyclist last week, leaving the man in critical condition.

The bicyclist, a 56-year-old man, was struck by a black or dark-colored Toyota Camry at 5:42 a.m. on Aug. 8 while he was riding south in the bike lane on Fremont Boulevard south of Old Warm Springs Boulevard, according to police.

He suffered injuries including major head trauma, broken ribs and several abrasions, and remains unconscious and in critical condition.

The Camry, a four-door model dated between 1992 and 1996, was last seen traveling south on Fremont Boulevard and has not yet been located.

Police said the vehicle probably has damage to the right front bumper area.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Fremont police at (510) 790-6800 and ask for Traffic Officer A. Zambonin #2528 or the Traffic Division.
