Update: Bicyclist Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run

Police are advising motorists to avoid Fremont Boulevard between Old Warm Springs Boulevard and South Grimmer.

A 56-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries Tuesday morning after being struck by a Toyota Camry in a hit-and-run

According to the Fremont Police Department, the incident occurred at 5:42 a.m. near Fremont Boulevard and Old Warm Springs Boulevard when a black or dark colored Toyota Camry struck the man as he was riding his bike in the bike lane.

The driver continued southbound on Fremont Boulevard toward Grimmer Boulevard and did not return to the scene, police said Tuesday. The car may have front bumper damage, according to police.

The victim suffered a major head injury, broken ribs and abrasions. He was transported to a local hospital.

Roads were blocked off in the area for several hours.

As of noon Tuesday, the suspect had not been located.
