Police: Burglary Suspects May Have Been on Rampant Crime Spree

A man and woman arrested Sunday were found in possession of car keys, credit cards, check books, cell phones, watches and other items belonging to multiple individuals.

A man and woman arrested Sunday morning may have been on a rampant burglary spree, police said.

According to the Fremont Police Department, authorities were notified of an in-progress burglary on the 4500 block of Mattos Drive at around 9 a.m. Neighbors reported seeing an unknown man and woman carrying large containers out of a home and heard one of the suspects tell the other to “hurry up.”

The suspects fled the area in a white GMC SUV prior to police arrival, but an officer located a matching vehicle at a nearby shopping center on Mowry Avenue.

The officer detained the female suspect — identified as 29-year-old Amber Luke of Fremont — as she exited the Burger King on 5245 Mowry Ave., where she attempted to hide a duffel bag in the men’s restroom.

According to Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques, the duffel bag contained numerous stolen items and burglary tools including a purse, a garage door opener, watches, multiple sets of car keys, registration information for multiple vehicles, checkbooks belonging to various victims, cell phones, a pouch with bank notes from Sri Lanka and a victim’s 401K plan statements, among other items.

“It looks like there were a ton of victims,” Bosques said.

The male suspect — identified as 34-year-old Anthony Scott of Fremont — was nabbed at the 7-Eleven next door at 5255 Mowry Ave. He was found in possession of jewelry, credit cards and a laptop, all of which were taken from the Mattos Drive burglary. He was also in possession of items from other recent residential burglaries and was found with suspected methamphetamine, police said.

The duo was also using a car stolen that was stolen from another Glenmoor area home either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Property stolen from several recent car burglaries were also found inside the car.

Scott was arrested on suspicion of various charges including first degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, car theft, possession of stolen property on his person and possession of meth.

Luke faces charges of first degree burglary, auto burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.

It wasn’t clear how many victims Scott and Luke may have targeted but investigators believe their spree to have spanned several days, Bosques said.

The investigation is ongoing.
