Police Arrest Road Rage Suspect Who Stabbed Victim with Screwdriver

From Fremont Police

On Friday, May 17, 2013, the Fremont Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit arrested Bryant Salazar (30 years old, San Jose resident) who was wanted in connection with the road rage/stabbing incident that occurred on May 14th at the Union 76 Gas Station located at 46840 Warm Springs Boulevard.

At approximately 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday evening, officers were dispatched to the Union 76 Gas station in the Warm Springs district to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon incident.

When officers arrived, it was learned that the victim had been followed by an adult male who was driving a Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Tacoma was angry and had been tailgating him for several blocks until they arrived at the Union76 gas station.

As they entered the parking lot, the suspect was able to pull his vehicle ahead of the victims, cutting it off and pinning up against a wall. The suspect exited his vehicle, attempted to conceal his license plate and then approached the victim.

Reaching into the victim’s drivers’ side window, which was down, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest area with an 8” screwdriver. The suspect fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local trauma center and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses were able to provide officers with detailed facts including the license plate of the Tacoma, which helped lead to the identity of the suspect, Bryant Salazar. Officers immediately began searching for Salazar that evening.

On Friday, Detectives authored a warrant for the arrest of Salazar. He was then located and arrested by the Fremont Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the area of Capitol/Ocala in San Jose. He was booked into the Fremont Jail on one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
