Anonymous Tip Leads to Arrest of Gold Chain Robbery Suspect

Charles Stewart, 24, of Oakland, has been charged with felony robbery, as well as a violation of parole, in connection to a Sept. 24 gold necklace snatching in Fremont.

A 24-year-old Oakland has been arrested in connection to a gold necklace snatching last month, thanks to an anonymous tipster, Fremont police said.

According to the Fremont Police Department, officers responded to a report of a robbery on Sept. 24 at 1:10 a.m. The woman was returning home from a shopping trip and walking toward her home near Deep Creek Road and Paseo Padre Parkway when the suspect came up from behind, yelled “don’t move,” and used force to remove the jewelry from her neck before fleeing.

Later that day, Fremont police received an anonymous tip from a citizen who witnessed the suspect flee the area and hop into a getaway car. The citizen jotted down the vehicle’s license plate and reported it to authorities, police said.
