BLACK FRIDAY/HOLIDAY SHOPPING KICK-OFF

Where/When: NewPark Mall in Newark; Thursday at 8 p.m.

Why Go: For those who wish to shop on Turkey Day, NewPark Mall will kick-off Black Friday and the holiday shopping season at select stores starting at 8 p.m. The entire mall opens at midnight. Those who spend $125 or more will receive a $25 coupon for a future purchases at select stores.

COMIC AND FIGURE ADDICTS SALE

Where/When: Comic and Figure Addicts, 3902 Smith St. in Union City; Friday and Saturday starting at noon

Why Go: Toy and comic book store Comic and Figure Addicts is having a two-day storewide sale in honor of Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. Get between 25 to 50 percent off on rare and collectible. Also, if you bring a new, unwrapped toy for their Toys for Tots bin, you'll get 20 percent off of your purchase (some restrictions apply).

NILES CANYON RAILWAY TRAIN OF LIGHTS

Where/When:
 37001 Mission Blvd. in Fremont; starting Friday with departures at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Why Go: Take your family on an excursion through Niles Canyon on this train decked out in holiday lights. Train rides begin this Friday and run every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 29.

Price: Tickets start at $25

NILES FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS PARADE

Where/When: Niles Boulevard in Fremont; Friday at 6 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy more than 60 unique floats, marching bands, classic cars a tap dancing Christmas tree and an appearance from Santa Claus himself at this longtime local parade. Get there early, as the sidewalks tend to get crowded.

2ND ANNUAL NILES TOY SHOW

Where/When: Niles Banquet Hall, 37270 Niles Blvd.; Saturday at 8 a.m.

Why Go: Join Mantiques for their second annual toy show, featuring a variety of rare and collectible toys from Transformers and G.I. Joes to Hot Wheels and Barbie dolls.
