This Week: Ballet Folklorico, Police Station Dedication, Music at Mission Coffee

Heads up! Here are five events taking place this week that you don’t want to miss.

Youth Orchestra Accepting Students

The Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County is currently accepting new students for the 2013-14 season. The community-based nonprofit is seeks youth in grades 1 through 12 who play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Those interested should email yosac94540@aol.com or visit www.yosac.org

Bayside 4-H Club Open House

Want your child to explore a variety of community-based activities? Sign him or her up for the Bayside 4-H Club, which serves youth 5 to 18 in the Tri-City area. The club participates in a variety of community service and leadership activities. An open house and registration event will be held Monday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Maloney Elementary School, located at 38700 Logan Dr. in Fremont. 

Fremont Police Station to be Renamed in Honor of Bob Wasserman

The late Bob Wasserman, one of Fremont’s most notable city leaders, will be memorialized with the renaming of the Fremont Police Department during a special dedication ceremony Friday at 4 p.m. Wasserman served the City of Fremont for nearly 40 years as a former police chief, councilman and mayor. The dedication ceremony will be held in front of the Fremont Police Department, located at 2000 Stevenson Blvd.

Celebrate Mexican heritage with El Ballet Folklorico de James Logan High School as they perform traditional dances from Mexico. The event, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Fremont Main Library.

Incendio Live at Mission Coffee

Guitar-driven instrumental world music band Incendio rocks Mission Coffee this Saturday at 7 p.m. The band draws from a wide range of influences, from Latin and Middle Eastern music to jazz and rock. Tickets are $15.
