Chadbourne Elementary Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School

Chadbourne Elementary is only one of two Alameda County schools selected for the honor.

Fremont's Chadbourne Elementary School was recognized as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 13 out of 236 California public schools for their high-performing or significant academic improvement.

“These schools are wonderful illustrations of the work we do here in California schools to prepare our students to thrive in the world they will find outside of our classrooms,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said in a statement. “I am proud to see them held up as national examples.”

Chadbourne Elementary is one of two Alameda County schools selected for the honor. The other Alameda County school to receive the national recognition is Jensen Ranch Elementary in Castro Valley.

Chadbourne Elementary principal Anette Raichbart applauded her staff for the achievement.

"The teachers at Chadbourne have worked very hard for many, many years to support our students here," Raichbart told Patch. "We have students from all backgrounds, and our teachers work very hard to give equitable education to all students.”

Raichbart will attend an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 18-19 on behalf of the the school. The school will receive a National Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and flag to fly at the school as a symbol of academic excellence.
