Raj Salwan — a veterinarian, planning commissioner and chair of the Tri-Cities Democratic Forum — was appointed to the Fremont City Council Monday night, according to media reports.
Salwan will complete the remaining term of former councilman Bill Harrison, who was recently elected mayor. The term expires November 2014.
Ten candidates initially applied for the seat. Those applicants were narrowed down to six last week, with the final selection made during a special meeting Monday.
According to the Fremont Argus, Salwan ranked the highest with seven points.
David Bonaccorsi came second with six points. Trailing behind was John J. Dutra with four points. Yogi Chugh received three points while Christina Broadwin and Rick Jones finishing with two points each.
Salwan was then appointed to the council on a 3-1 vote. Vice Mayor Anu Natarajan voted against the motion, the Argus reports.
