Fremont Police Station to be Renamed in Honor of Bob Wasserman

Wasserman was a former police chief, councilman and mayor of Fremont.

The late Bob Wasserman, one of Fremont’s most notable city leaders, will be memorialized with the renaming of the Fremont Police Department.

On Friday, Sept. 13, the Fremont Police Department will be dedicated and officially named after Bob Wasserman, a former police chief, councilman and mayor.

Wasserman passed away on Dec. 29, 2011 at age 77. He had been mayor since 2004, had served on the Fremont City Council since 1992 and had worked in law enforcement for nearly 40 years.

“It is an honor for our family to have the Wasserman name continue,” wife Linda Wasserman told Patch. “Bob devoted 37 years to Fremont, he never had personal motivations, he treated all people as equals. He only thought of the safety and well being of its residence and the economic development to become a financial secure city.”

The renaming of the police station in his honor would be a dream come true for the beloved public figure, Linda Wasserman said.

“Bob had hoped someday his name would be recognized on the police building,” she said. “I know that big smile is looking at us.”
