The potential for flooding in Fremont is a reality, particularly in areas near the San Francisco Bay and along creeks.

The City of Fremont has been a member of the National Flood Insurance Program since 1983 and has adopted a floodplain management ordinance to reduce flood risks for properties within Special Flood Hazard Areas.

In Fremont, Special Flood Hazard Areas are typically near the Bay and along creeks and channels. To buy, build, or improve structures in such an area, flood insurance is required.

To remove your property from a Special Flood Hazard Area or reduce the cost of flood insurance, you can obtain a Letter of Map Change or Elevation Certificate.
