Sierra LaMar: Family to Commemorate 1-Year Since Disappearance

A press conference and search will be held Saturday morning in Morgan Hill, followed by a fundraiser in Fremont.

This Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Sierra LaMar.

Sierra, who grew up in Fremont, vanished the morning of March 16, 2012 on her way to school in Morgan Hill. She was 15 at the time.

To commemorate LaMar's life, the LaMar family will hold a press conference Saturday at The Sierra LaMar Search Center at 85 Tilton Rd. in Morgan Hill at 9:00 a.m, followed by a ceremonial balloon release.

Later in the afternoon, from 1-5 p.m., a fundraiser called Hope to Find Sierra will be held at Niles Hall, 37270 Niles Blvd. in Fremont featuring live music by Eddie Ramirez and Davina Joy, bounce houses, face painting, hula dancers and a raffle. The event will begin after the day's search for Sierra ends.

“Searching for Sierra has been a long journey,” said her mother Marlene. “The loss and pain have been indescribable.”

Though her body has not been found, authorities have ruled Sierra’s disappearance a homicide.

Antolin Garcia Torres was arrested May 21, 2012 and charged with Sierra's kidnapping and murder. He has not yet entered a plea but is scheduled to return to court on April 4.
