Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a 14-year-old boy Monday morning.

The boy was struck while he walking in a crosswalk on Nicolet Avenue near Mackenzie Place around 7:30 a.m., police said. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Fremont police said the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy is desribed as a Hispanic man between the ages of 35 and 40.

The driver was last seen leaving the area in a red, four-door sedan on southbound Nicolet Avenue toward Alder Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fremont Police Officer Alan Zambonin at 510-790-6800 or via email at Azambonin@fremont.gov.

This article might get more attention if your headline read HIT AND RUN ... this was my great-nephew, I want this person found and punished!

The police said that illegal immigrants do this quite often, "more often than you would think", in fear of deportation and it enrages me to think that is true. California's liberal outlook on everything protects people like this. By overlooking these people's immigrant status unless a severely violent crime occurs they run amok and its bs IMO. I hope they catch this piece of junk, take him to court and take everything he owns then throw him in jail. Better yet just throw him out of our country so our taxes aren't paying for his incarceration. This state needs to get it shiz together. Maybe take some advice from our neighbors in Az. Btw I am also related to this boy. He is a good kid. He definitely didn't deserve this (not that any innocent person does). We are praying that he has a speedy 100% recovery and also that the scum bag is held accountable for his actions.

You racist piece of shits along with the Fremont PD assuming the driver was an illegal immigrant.

Try turning the tables ... what if the driver was of "legal" immigration status, but hit-and-run to avoid a drunk driving citation, having hit a child of ethic background. Would you automatically call for deportation of a child with questionnable immigration status, or perhaps not provide medical treatment for him? Let's not complain about tax dollars spent on illegals -- do you not enjoy the fruits of their labor, such as affordable produce, domestic services/jobs Americans won't do, preferring to ask for handouts at street corners, etc.? I can't recall seeing an ethnic beggar -- but have seen ethnic folks trying to find work. Let's try to be more generous of spirit to more than just the ones we know and love, so we can all enjoy a kinder, gentler world. Best wishes for your relative's speedy recovery and I hope they find and prosecute the offender -- ideally the same way as for any legal American citizen.
