Police Participating in 'Operation Urban Rescue' at Unitek Education

Emergency personnel are scheduled to take part in a training scenario tomorrow and want to let the public know there will be emergency vehicles in the area as part of the training. The event is not open to the public.

We would like to notify our community of a large public safety, mass casualty practice event that is taking place on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Unitek Education in Fremont (4670 Automall Parkway).  

This event is a one-day private training exercise, organized and sponsored by Unitek, designed to equip participants with tactical procedures to respond to potential disasters.

Operation Urban Rescue is a large-scale military and civilian response to a fictional catastrophe in Fremont, California. Participants will respond to an armed insurgent threat, improvised explosive devices, hazardous materials, and critical medical conditions. Emergency medical services will need to assess the scenario, respond to immediate medical emergencies, and coordinate with other agencies to secure the disaster scene and render care Unitek Education is collaborating with multiple public and private agencies, including the Fremont Police Department and Washington Hospital.  

While the event shouldn’t affect traffic in the area or adjacent neighborhoods, many community members may see and hear police vehicles and ambulances at the event venue. While some emergency vehicles will be driving to and from the venue throughout the day, they will not do so with activated lights and sirens.  In addition two to three helicopters will be utilized to transport up to five patients from the event venue to Washington Hospital.
