Police Log: Skater Robbed, Battered; Catalytic Converters Swiped from Cars at BART

Robberies, thefts, stick-ups and more from Aug. 8 to 14.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Aug. 8 and 14 as released by the Fremont Police Department. 

Wednesday, Aug. 14
  • Skate park robbery. A 17-year-old victim’s mother reported to police that that her son was beaten and robbed Tuesday at the skate park.  Three unidentified males reportedly tried to steal the victim’s friend’s backpack. When the victim intervened, he was battered by the three suspects.
  • Indecent exposure. Around 7:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a tall, black male in his 50s, wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans exposing himself at the corner of Porter Street and Sundale Drive.  Officers arrived quickly, but were unable to locate the suspect. 

  • Road closure alert Saturday and Sunday. The Police Department advises residents and motorists that several roads will be closed during the two-day 21st Annual Festival of India Saturday and Sunday in downtown Fremont at Walnut Avenue and Paseo Padre Parkway from 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day, with a parade noon on Sunday. Tuesday, Aug. 13
  • Burglar stole garage opener from car at BART, then possibly proceeded to victim's house. A vehicle was broken into at Hayward BART station in the morning with a garage-door opener stolen. Later in the day when the Fremont resident returned to his Jessica Circle home, his garage was open and the door leading into his house was damaged from a forced entry. No losses were yet determined.  

Monday, Aug. 12
  • Cat burglar arrest.  A Union City male, 46, was arrested after reportedly entering a Holly Street house through a window while the family was present. The suspect was seen in the kitchen and appeared to be talking to another suspect. Officers were on scene within two minutes and caught the initial suspect as he tried to flee onto Oak Street. A yard-to-yard canine search failed to turn up the second suspect. 
  • Two armed robberies reported 80 minutes apart at gas stations. A suspect with a handgun entered the Shell at Stevenson Boulevard and Farwell Drive demanding money. The second station robbed was the 76 Station at Ardenwood Boulevard and I-84.  No suspect vehicles were seen. 
Sunday, Aug. 11
  • Weapon at Golden Arches. A customer at McDonald’s on Cushing Road reported that a white male with red hair threatened him with a black pistol after a small disagreement in the restaurant's parking lot. A possible suspect was located parked near Industrial Place. The victim made a positive identification, but declined to make an arrest. The suspect confessed, however, and police recovered the pellet pistol he hid in a dumpster. 
  • Diner receives wrong credit card after meal, goes on birthday shopping spree in Newark. Story here.
  • Three commercial burglaries. Intruders used a fire extinguisher to break the glass of three individual business suites along 39000 Fremont Boulevard sometime over the past week. Losses were not yet determined.
Saturday, Aug. 10
  • Gold-necklace robbery. An Oakland man, 22, was arrested as the suspect who yanked a chain from a woman's neck at 2:38 p.m. in a parking lot along 40000 Albrae Street. The victim said a male grabbed her gold necklace and fled in a grey vehicle with a license ending in "760." An officer in the area spotted the car and detained five people inside. The robbery suspect was among them and identified by the victim. Also arrested were an Oakland man, 20, an Oakland woman, 20, and two Fremont females, 24 and 19. 
  • Graffiti detail  The V.I.P.S. (Volunteers in Police Services) worked from 8 a.m. to noon removing/covering over 200 graffiti taggings.

Friday, Aug. 9
  • Catalytic converters swiped from car at BART. Grand theft at Fremont BART Station of two catalytic converters from a 2007 white Toyota Sequoia, parked in stall #1827 Lot B, between 5:25 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. Reference case number: BART PD CASE #1308-1311.
  • Driver drunk; passenger, too. A 22-year-old Campbell man was arrested at Fremont Boulevard and Haven Avenue for suspected driving under the influence His companion, a male, 21, San Jose, was taken in for alleged public intoxication.

  • Road rage.  A 27-year-old motorcyclist was arrested on vandalism charges at 3 a.m. on Fortner Drive after allegedly kicking off the side mirror of a motorist's car.

Thursday, Aug. 8
  • Catalytic-converter BART theft reported. Grand theft of a $2,000 catalytic converter from a silver Toyota Sequoia at Fremont BART Station reported. Incident occurred July 29 between 7:25 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Trio sought for alleged robbery attempt. A woman at Safeway 5 Corners told police a man grabbed her arm and demanded her keys and purse at 6:30 p.m. She got away safely without losing her belongings, and the man left with two accomplices in an older model black Suburban. The suspects' descriptions: Hispanic male, 5'6", medium build, curly black hair, mustache, wearing white collared shirt with black stripes, blue jeans; Hispanic male, black shirt, mustache, driving the vehicle; and a third man, passenger in the car, of unknown race.  
  • Double arrest after Walmart theft. Two men from Oakland, 63 and 52, were arrested for reportedly stealing $900 in goods from Walmart on Osgood Road, then driving off in a white 1998 Chrysler. An officer in the area spotted the vehicle northbound on I-880 and trailed the car into Newark, back onto I-880, and units converged with a stop near Thornton Avenue. The pair was identified as the suspects and arrested.

  • Gunpoint robbery of phones and backpacks. Armed men reportedly robbed four individuals of backpacks and cellphones at 9:14 p.m. on Calcutta Drive and Dryden Road. The four friends told police they were sitting in a car when approached by: a thin black male, 5'11", late teens to early 20s, bandana over face, dark hoodie, blue jeans, armed with a black pistol; a thin Middle-Eastern male, 5'8" to 5'10", dark gray hoodie, blue jeans; and a man, thin build, 5'8" to 5'10" and race unknown, with a black and white bandana covering his mouth, wearing sunglasses, a black skull cap, black hoodie, blue jeans, and armed with a black semi-automatic pistol.
