Police Log: Suju's Break-In; Argument Ends with Stabbing

Folks pass away at home, warrant arrests, and more Jan. 15 to 21.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Jan. 15 and 21 as released by the Fremont Police Department.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

  • Triple-warrant arrest. At 3:10 a.m. during a pedestrian stop, a man, 54, was arrested for three misdemeanor warrants - one for obstructing, one for disobeying a court order and one for making annoying/molesting telephone calls.
  • A U-Haul van was reported stolen from a lot on Thornton Avenue. 
Monday, Jan. 20
  • Dog complicates fire response. Fremont Fire Department was called for a fire in a backyard on Allen Court, a call made more difficult as the yard could not be accessed due to an aggressive pit bull. The fire was eventually contained.
  • Stash in sock. During a traffic stop, a 24-year-old man was arrested for his misdemeanor warrant.  During a search at the jail, suspected methamphetamine was found in his sock. 
Sunday, Jan.19
  • Injury collision. A 49-year-old woman went to the hospital with major, but non-life threatening, injuries after two vehicles collided at Paseo Padre Parkway and Capitol Avenue. 
  • Probation fail. A probation search was held on the 4700 block of Mesa Drive, and a 53-year-old male was found in possession of methamphetamine and arrested. 
Saturday, Jan. 18
  • Person down and battered. Police responded to a "person down" call near Nicolet Avenue and Fremont Boulevard. An intoxicated woman was found passed out near Pinebrook Apartments.  After a closer examination of her face, officers suspected she was also a likely victim of domestic violence.   She was transported to the hospital via ambulance for treatment of her injuries, and an investigation to identify the suspect is underway. 
Friday, Jan. 17
  • A warrant arrest was made at 10:10 p.m. of a male, 18, stopped at the Centerville Train Depot for a traffic violation.  A want/warrant check revealed that he had a warrant for his arrest with bail listed at $1.5 million.   
  • Death of elderly woman. On Guardino Drive, a 75-year-old female called relatives to say she was not feeling well.  A family member drove to her house and discovered her unresponsive.  Fremont Fire arrived and she was pronounced deceased.  No unusual circumstances found.   
  • Suspicious box at courthouse. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office investigated a suspicious package found outside an Alameda County courthouse in Oakland, a sheriff's sergeant said. A suspicious box was found at about 1 p.m. near the 12th Street entrance to the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse at 1221 Oak St., sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. One room was evacuated near where the package was found because of windows in the room. The sheriff's bomb squad responded, detonated the box and determined it was harmless.
Thursday, Jan. 16
  • Stabbing on Cortez. A stabbing was reported on the 4700 block of Cortez Avenue, with a victim stabbed in the arm during an argument. The wound was non-life threatening, and the female suspect fled before police arrived.  An investigation on-going.
  • Lewd dude. An officer responded to reports from the Coyote Hills area of a male in a silver Honda making sexual gestures toward female motorists. The man was stopped and cited him for possession of marijuana.   
  • Man passed away at home. Officers were asked to check on a 62- year-old Fremont man by family members who were unable to reach him for a few days. Officers entered his Sunnycrest court home and found him inside deceased inside. The coroner responded. 
Wednesday, Jan. 15
  • Suspected prostitute driving stolen car. An officer ran the license plate of a vehicle in a non-injury accident at Durham Green Apartments on Grimmer Boulevard and learned the car was reported stolen from Augusta, Georgia, and the driver, 18, from San Leandro was wanted on a prostitution warrant. She also gave the officer false identification, and was arrested. 
  • Coffee shop burglary. A window was smashed and an alarm sounded at 2 a.m. at Suju's Coffee on Thornton Avenue. No loss reported; video surveillance pending.  
  • An ill woman in her 50s passed away in her sleep on Delaware Street. Her husband found her when he returned from work. No suspicious circumstances found.
