Man Killed in Crash Monday on Hwy 92

The crashed, which occurred late Monday morning, claimed the life of a 37-year-old San Mateo resident. The other driver, a 25-year-old Fremont man, avoided major injury.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate a two-car collision on state Highway 92 in Hayward on Monday morning that killed a San Mateo man.

Officers responded to reports of a crash on eastbound Highway 92, just west of Clawiter Road, at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, the CHP reported.

The driver of a 2001 BMW, a 37-year-old San Mateo man, was in the fast lane and abruptly turned right, crossing all four lanes, and striking a 2001 Acura in the slow lane, according to the CHP.

The two cars veered past the right shoulder and off the road. The driver of the BMW, whose name has not yet been released, crashed his car into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Acura driver, a 25-year-old Fremont man, crashed his car into a fence, but only suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.
