A man was hospitalized after he was attacked then robbed in central Fremont Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a male suspect approached the victim just before 3 p.m. on the 3800 block of Walnut Avenue, across from the and near HSBC Bank.
The suspect then asked the victim where the library was and that when the victim, who was walking to work, starting using his cell phone to look up directions to the library, the suspect began hitting him until he lost consciousness, police said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Fremont police.
Police said the suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s who is about 6-foot tall of medium build with short hair. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt.
Several hours later, police responded to another theft in which a woman was robbed of her backpack at the Northgate Savoy Apartments.
The woman said the black male adult suspect said he’d shoot her if she didn’t give up her belongings, then grabbed her backpack and fled on foot around 2:20 a.m. Thursday.
A white van was seen in the area but police could not say whether that vehicle was connected to the suspect.
