A 19-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a car on New Year's Eve while crossing a major Fremont intersection with an infant and another teen has been identified as Ashley Capuchin.

Fremont police said the young woman, who was holding a 3-month-old boy, and a 17-year-old girl, were walking west across Paseo Padre Parkway at Mowry Avenue around 9:55 p.m. when a vehicle struck them.

All three were taken to a hospital, where Capuchin succumbed to her injuries.

Police said the baby was being treated for life-threatening injuries and the 17-year-old was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Police said the driver in the crash, a 64-year-old man, has cooperated with the investigation and is not suspected of drunken driving.

The collision prompted the shutdown of the intersection for the following six hours.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit at (510) 790-6760.
