Hayward Home Depot Shooting Victim in Recovery

The suspect in the Sunday afternoon incident remains at large.

A 27-year-old Fremont man is in recovery after being shot during a violent altercation with a theft suspect Sunday afternoon.

According to the Bay Area News Group, the suspect — who is still at large — was attempting to steal a $250 construction tool from the store, located at 21787 Hesperian Blvd., when he was confronted by security.

Two plain-clothes security officers — the Fremont man and a 30-year-old Hayward resident — witnessed the suspect grab the item and walk out of the store. The officers approached the suspect, identified themselves and attempted to grab him. However, the suspect spun away, knocking one of the officers to the floor, BANG reports.

The suspect fled on foot and remained at large Monday.

He was wearing a dark baseball hat, a grey sweatshirt, an orange t-shirt and jean shorts with white socks pulled to his knees. However, some of his clothing had been discarded behind a doughnut store, according to BANG.
