Police Arrest Pair Suspected Of Stealing Pit Bull Pup from Animal Shelter

Sting operation nabs 'pupnappers' who allegedly tried to sell a pooch they purloined from the Tri-City Animal Shelter.

Fremont police have nabbed two "pupnappers" who allegedly stole, and then tried to sell, a baby pit bull taken from the Tri-City Animal Shelter.

Here's how FPD cracked the case of the purloined pooch.

On Tuesday, a 19 year old man and his juvenile accomplice visited the shelter pretending to be interested in adoption. Instead they spirited away a pit bull pup who had already been adopted and was awaiting pickup by its new family.

The thieves then allegedly listed the hapless pup for sale on Cragslist.

Animal Services enlisted the assistance of Fremont detectives, who set up a sting operation. After they paid for the puppy other officers sprung the trap and arrested the seller and his sidekick near Decoto Road and Fremont Boulevard.

The puppy was postively identified by Animal Services and returned to the shelter where it will be united with its new owner.

Both suspects were cited for theft.

Really? It isn't a private family matter? Then why was the Sheriff of SF County allowed to make thisRead More claim and plea bargain down so he could keep his guns?
