Emeryville Man Arrested in Suspected DUI Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

An Emeryville man was arrested in a suspected DUI crash that killed a motorcyclist in Fremont this morning, a police spokeswoman said.
 
An employee at a nearby Taco Bell called police around 1:10 a.m. to report a drive-thru customer who appeared to be "very belligerent and possibly under the influence," police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

A description of the suspect vehicle, a white Mini Cooper, was sent to police and one officer driving north on Fremont Boulevard saw the car driving at a high speed in the opposite direction, according to Bosques.
 
The officer made a U-turn and initiated a traffic stop on the Mini Cooper that continued traveling south on Fremont Boulevard and failed to yield, she said. The suspect struck a motorcycle on the road then drove into a utility pole and fence, Bosques said.
 
The Mini Cooper burst into flames at Fremont Boulevard and Decoto Road close to a Fremont Bank, according to Bosques. The suspect attempted to flee on foot to a nearby field but officers were able to catch him, she said.
 
Police arrested the driver, identified as 23-year-old Alexander Yohn, Bosques said.

Two passersby told officers en route to the scene that they saw a body on the road, she said. Officers did find the body, which was a "pretty significant distance away from motorcycle," Bosques said.
 
The motorcyclist, only identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. Fremont Boulevard will be closed at Decoto Road to traffic for several hours this morning as police conduct their investigation, according to Bosques.
