Domestic Violence Suspect on the Lam Found Hiding Under Mattress in Fremont Home

Police say David Contreras may have been hiding in the house for a month.

A man who had been evading arrest for more than a month was found hiding under a mattress in a Fremont home last week, police said today.

David Contreras, 36, was wanted on suspicion of domestic violence for allegedly battering a pregnant woman in May, police said. Contreras, a Fremont resident, spoke to police on the phone after the incident and told them they wouldn't be able to find him, according to police.

Officers ultimately found Contreras hiding in a home on Geddy Court last Thursday, police said. Investigators believe Contreras may have been hiding in the home for the past month. Officers are now investigating suspects who they believe harbored Contreras, knowing he was a fugitive.

Contreras was booked at the Fremont Police Detention Facility on suspicion of domestic violence, false imprisonment, a sex offender registration violation and resisting arrest, police said.
