Crime Log: Police Receive 14 Fake Reports of People in Danger; Man Harasses Female Student at Warm Springs Elementary

A summary of recent crimes reported in Fremont.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Feb. 28 and March 6 as released by the Fremont Police Department. 

THURSDAY, FEB. 28

Man arrested after harassing female student at Warm Springs Elementary School

A 63-year-old man was seen harassing female students at Warm Springs Elementary School. The suspect, identified as Ramon Gri, was seen engaging in conversation with a female student in the morning. He came back two hours later and was seen walking around campus. He was confronted by school staff, who alerted police.

Through their investigation, police learned that Gri had followed an adult female from the school as she walked home in the morning. He asked to borrow a phone and was asked to leave when he began making lewd comments. He was arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old.

Burglars ram business doors with car, steal computers

A vehicle rammed the roll-up doors at Glass Point Solar, located at 46485 Landing Pkwy. The unknown suspect(s) made off with computers and tools.

Man arrested after bizarre bath salts-induced behavior

A 31-year-old man was arrested after he was reportedly causing a disturbance on Coco Palm Drive. Arriving officers witnessed him exhibiting bizarre behavior and arrested him. He was determined to be under the influence of bath salts.

Man brandishes knife, head-butts girlfriend

A man was arrested after reportedly brandishing a knife and head-butting his girlfriend. He also made statements that led officers to place him under a psychiatric hold.

Home burglaries

Burglaries were reported on the 34600 block of Hurst Avenue and 2600 block of Barrington Terrace. 

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Woman tasered for resisting arrest

A woman had to be tasered after she failed to comply with officers' orders. The woman was reportedly peeking into windows on the 3600 block of Peralta Boulevard while she had a tool in her hand. When officers responded, she became aggressive and had to be subdued by use of the taser. She also had to be placed in a safety wrap in order to prevent harm to herself or officers.

Attempted home burglary

A resident reported a suspicious man knocking on a neighbor's door on the 3500 block of Meyer Court. The suspect was seen going to the back and jumping the fence. He was later seen entering a maroon colored car and leaving the area. A responding officer saw the suspect leaving the area, who then began driving recklessly. The officer called off the chase due to the suspect’s erratic driving. The car was later found abandoned. Officers set up a perimeter, called in for the CHP’s helicopter and brought in the K-9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Authorities receive false report of life-threatening situation…

Authorities received a call from a female saying that her husband was armed with a gun and was trying to hurt her. She added that she had a head injury and that she was hiding in a bedroom closet before hanging up. Multiple units responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the two-story condo. Officers contacted the property owner, who told police that the condo was vacant. The call is believed to have been a hoax.

SATURDAY, MARCH 2

On Saturday, officers received similar calls of distress. In one report, a female said that she was in danger. In the second, a male said he was in his car and that his wife struck him with an object, causing him to bleed from his head. Several units responded to the calls but could not locate anyone. An additional twelve calls were made from the same people.

Attempted home burglary

A resident on Barnard Drive saw a woman ringing her door bell but did not answer it. Shortly after, a man was at her rear sliding door. The male suspect fled when he saw the resident inside the home. They were seen leaving the area in a black SUV, similar to a Jeep Cherokee.

SUNDAY, MARCH 3

Gang member found in possession of ‘Rambo’ style knife

An officer responded to a report of males drinking in the rear parking lot at 4250 Central Ave. The officer located two men who are known to be gang members and a juvenile sitting in a car. A switchblade and a large “Rambo” style knife wrapped in blue bandanna were located next to the front seat of the car. One of the adults was arrested on suspicion of possessing a dangerous weapon and the other was arrested on suspicion of trespassing. One of the suspects was also found with 6.5 grams of meth in his sock.

Man assaults wife in public

Officers were sent to the area of the 7-Eleven on Central Avenue to investigate a report of a man hitting and pushing a female. The man was arrested on suspicion of felony spousal battery and being drunk in public.

MONDAY, MARCH 4

DUI arrest

Units investigated a female driver passed out in a Mercedes in the middle of the road at Paseo Padre Parkway and Tupelo Street. She was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested.

Commercial burglary

Harbor Light Church, located at 4760 Thornton Ave., was burglarized. No details were released at the time of the report.

Home burglaries:

A home was burglarized on the 3100 block of Puttenham Way between 7:30 p.m. on March 2 and 10 a.m. on March 3. Entry was made by removing the screen of an open bathroom window. A large flatscreen TV and a hedge trimmer were stolen.

Money and a wallet with ID and credit cards were stolen from a home on the 4400 block of Margery Drive between 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Cash, jewelry and a tablet were stolen in a burglary that occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the 41900 block of Mission Creek Drive.

An unknown suspect threw a brick through the rear sliding glass window of a home on the 3900 block of Logan Drive and stole a purse at around 7:50 p.m.

A laptop was stolen from a home on the 48300 block of Purpleleaf Street between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The suspect(s) entered through an unlocked sliding door.

TUESDAY, MARCH 5

Man crashes at neighbor’s house, steals his jewelry

A resident on Coco Palm Drive let a 25-year-old neighbor stay at his place after the neighbor was kicked out of his home. The neighbor then allegedly stole jewelry from him and sold it at a local We Buy Gold shop. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of grand theft.

Two arrested for using fake credit cards

A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were arrested after trying to use counterfeit gift cards at Outback Steakhouse. Employees were aware of recent attempts to pass fake cards and alerted police.

Attempted home burglary

A resident on North Moray Street reported a man trying to break into her home. The suspect rang the doorbell and then jumped over the side yard fence. The suspect went to the back of the home and, after seeing the resident was home, fled on foot. Officers could not locate the suspect. Another neighbor in the area reported that a suspect rang her door bell and then walked away when she answered.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, 5-foot-10, with a large muscular build and wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.

Man arrested for stealing from Fry’s

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary after he tried to conceal several hundred dollars of items from Fry’s in his backpack.

Strong-armed robbery at SV Food and Liquor

A masked suspect wrestled away cash from the clerk at SV Food and Liquor, located at 35650 Fremont Blvd. The suspect was described as a black male between 28 and 30 years old, wearing a grey sweatshirt, black jeans and a white ski mask with holes in it. 

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6

Driver pinned inside car after accident

A man sustained major injuries and had to be extracted from his car during an accident on Mission Boulevard and Driscoll Road. The accident occurred at about 5:35 a.m. when one of the vehicles ran a red light while heading southbound on Mission Boulevard and crashed into the other. The driver of the second car was pinned inside for about 30 minutes. The Fremont Fire Department responded and had to use heavy equipment to extract the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to a trauma center. His injures, though severe, were not life-threatening.

Woman tries to buy car with stolen ID, credit cards

A female suspect tried to use an ID and credit cards she stole from a friend to buy a car from Fremont Nissan. The victim, however, had reported the credit cards as stolen. The dealership notified the police but the suspect fled before they arrived.

Home burglaries:

A homeowner on the 4900 block of Paseo Padre Parkway came home to find a ladder on the side of his house placed under a bathroom window. He heard voices form inside his home and called police. The suspects came out of the house, saw the homeowner and fled in a white car.

A man returned to his home on the 3900 block of Donner Way to find several male suspects burglarizing his home. The homeowner confronted the suspects, but one of them pushed him and they all fled on foot. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter but could not locate the suspects.
