Crime Log: Customer Scares Off Would-Be Robbers; Man Tries to Fight With Bar Security

Brief summaries of crime reports in Fremont that occurred Oct. 25-30.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Oct. 25 and Oct. 30 as released by the Fremont Police Department.

THURSDAY, OCT. 25

Three Homes Burglarized Within Two Hours

Three homes were burglarized between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The first was reported at 5 p.m. on the 38700 block of Huntington Circle in which the homeowner’s rear sliding glass door was shattered and two laptops and a digital camera were stolen. The second burglary was reported around 6:10 p.m. on the 47300 block of Rancho Higuera Road. The suspect(s) entered through an unlocked door. The home was ransacked and jewelry was stolen. About 30 minutes later, police responded to the 3100 block of Baylis Street to investigate a reported home burglary in which the suspect(s) entered through an unlocked window. Jewelry, cash and a digital camera were reported stolen.

Two Vehicles Stolen

Two vehicles were stolen between 5:30 a.m. an 2:30 p.m. The first vehicle theft was reported around 5:35 a.m. on the 4100 block of Baine Avenue. The vehicle that was stolen is described as a black, four-door 1997 Honda Accord with a license plate of 3WPL578. The second vehicle theft was reported around 2:10 p.m. on the 34500 block of Felix Terrace. That vehicle was described as  four-door, green 1996 Honda Civic with a license plate of 3RYF111.

Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in Front of State Farm Office

A 53-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects just after 4:30 p.m. while she was talking on her cell phone outside of a State Farm Insurance office on the 3600 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspects pointed the handgun at the woman and demanded she hand over her cell phone and wallet, police said. They were described as two Hispanic males, approximately 18- to 25-years-old and they were last seen fleeing in a silver or grey, four-door sedan.

Pawnshop Robbery Leads to Manhunt in Fremont

A man was arrested Friday in connection to an armed robbery of a Newark pawnshop after he bolted from a moving vehicle and ran into a Fremont neighborhood, prompting a manhunt, police said. Authorities were called to Greenback Pawnbrokers on the 7100 block of Thornton Avenue in Newark after an armed robbery was reported around 3:40 p.m., according to a Newark police statement. The incident then lead to a manhunt after police saw the man flee from a vehicle and run into a Fremont neighborhood. Read the full report here.

Customer Scares Off Would-Be Robbers

Police are investigated an attempted armed robbery of CJ Liquors on Stevenson Boulevard. Authorities said two suspects tried to rob the store’s clerk at gunpoint but became started and fled when a customer came in the store. No further details were available.

Man Attempts to Lure Woman in Car

Police were called to Northgate Park around 10:15 p.m. after a 20-year-old woman called authorities to report that a man driving a dark colored vhiecle (with flip-up headlights) tried to get her into his car by offering alcohol and movies. The man was described as a 5-foot-8, medium build black man between 25- and 30-years-old. He was last seen wearing a jean jacket, dark pants and diamond stud earrings.

Fight Among Party Guests Leads to Two Arrests

Police were called to the 4600 block of Portola Drive after a fight among guests was reported. Police were told that the involved parties fled but an officer was able to spot one a vehicle occupied by some of those involved. One man was arrested in connection to an outstanding felony warrant and another person was arrested for public drunkenness.

SATURDAY, OCT. 27

Man Tries to Fight With Bar Security

A man was detained after police were called to Saddle Rack just before midnight after it was reported that a 24-year-old man was trying to fight with the bar’s security staff.  The man was told to leave but then decided to fight his friends in a car. Police arrived and he was brought to Fremont Jail.

SUNDAY, OCT. 28

Shots Fired, No Suspects Found

A police officer was patrolling the area of Fremont Boulevard near Mowry Avenue around 2:18 a.m. when he heard shots fired. Another officer patrolling near Mowry Avenue and Logan Court also heard shots and tires screeching. Police, however, were unable to find where the shooting occurred.

Vehicle Stolen Overnight

A vehicle theft was reported around 10:30 a.m. on the 4500 block of LaSalle Avenue. Police said the vehicle that was stolen is described as a 2007 white Ford Econoline Van with a license plate of 8L41909. The vehicle also has a “Degree HVAC” logo on its sides. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

MONDAY, OCT. 29

Vehicle Stolen From Osgood Road

Police responded to 42650 Osgood Road after a vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle that was stolen is described as a green, 1978 Dodge Sportsman van. Police said that a license plate from another company vehicle parked near the vehicle taken was also stolen and that the suspect(s) also took a motorized go-cart and motorized bicycles.

Robber Snatches Gold Chain From Woman

A 61-year-old woman war robbed off her necklace after a male suspect approached her and asked her for money as she was exiting the Camden Quick Stop just before 2:30 p.m. The suspect fled the area on foot and is described as a 5-foot-9 man in his early 20s of medium build and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Police said he may have also been at the Gold Shop near Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard at a later time in the day but police have not been able to locate the suspect.

Vehicle Stolen From Kato Road

A vehicle was reported stolen from the 400 block of Kato Road and was said to be last seen on Oct. 27 around 7:30 p.m. The vehicle was describe as a green 1996 Chevy Suburban with a license plate of 5CBL271.

TUESDAY, OCT. 30

Driver Cited For Reckless Driving

An 18-year-old man doing donuts near five corners in the Irvington District was cited for reckless driving. The man’s vehicle was also towed.
