Update: Man Found Dead in Alameda Creek From Possible Suicide

The man's name has not been released pending family notification

An 86-year-old man was found dead in Alameda Creek near the area of Paseo Padre Parkway and Sequoia Terrace in what authorities say was a suicide.

The man's identification has not yet been released pending notification of his family but the man lived in Fremont and was suffering from a terminal illness, said Alameda County Sheriff Sgt. Ray Kelly.

A suicide note was found inside one of his pockets, Kelly added.

Authorities said a passerby found the man's body around 8 a.m. in the water near a bridge this morning behind the Creekside Village Apartments in Fremont.

The bridge is approximately 30 feet up from the water where the man was found dead, according to officials with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Patch will update this report as more information becomes available.
