Four months ago, my good friend Jesse Frechione and I decided to take the ride of a lifetime. In honor of HERS Breast Cancer Foundation (HBCF), we committed to riding from Anchorage, Alaska to Colombia in efforts to raise $15,000 for HBCF.
After successfully making it to La Paz, Mexico, Jesse and I decided to enjoy the town for a few weeks. We got an apartment, spent some good times on the local beach, and at the boating dock; where we saw some of the most amazing boats and yachts.
Dedicating our lives to such a tremendous journey like this can be wearing. We made it this far with hope and determination to raise awareness for breast cancer and to meet our fundraising goal for the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. As the peak of Holiday Season is upon us, a lot has been put into perspective and after much discussion and consideration, we have decided to reroute our journey.
With our frequent visits to the marina, one of the crews offered Jesse an opportunity to sail with them north to San Diego. Since an offer like this doesn’t happen every day, Jesse happily accepted. This was a chance for Jesse to sail the open sea and add to his once in a lifetime opportunities. From San Diego, Jesse will cycle east towards Arizona, where he will spend the Holidays with his family who reside there.
It has been an amazing journey with Jesse this far. We had some epic times and together we have experienced a biking expedition like no other – meeting amazing people, seeing some great places with beautiful scenery, and experiencing the open road at the fullest. All good things must come to an end and for our journey together the end is now.
As for me, I have made the decision to continue cycling for HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. We have currently raised a total of $5,358 and I want to continue to work towards our goal of $15,000. I have returned to U.S. soil and will now ride the Southern Tier route, biking from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL. I hope to continue bringing awareness to HBCF and breast cancer. I’m looking forward to my new journey and my father joining me at some point, and overall just exploring the different areas of our beautiful country.
Jesse and I want thank everyone for the love and support we have received during this trip. It sincerely means a great deal to know we are backed by so many wonderful people – those we’ve known for years and many we recently met. Jesse is an amazing individual: strong, thoughtful and genuine. I am so thankful for the friendship we have established and our memories will last forever.
