Alameda County To Give Arts Grants

By Vanessa Castañeda/Patch

The Alameda County Arts Commission announced it is now accepting applications for the grants it will distribute next year to local non-profit organizations that create art.

The ARTSFUND Grants programfinancially supports many types of art forms such as theater, dance, and other unique art forms. The goal of providing the funding is to improve the quality of life in Alameda County through public expression of human imagination, according to Guy Ashley, communications officer for Alameda County.

Some of organizations awarded grants in years past include The Rock Paper Scissors Collective in 2007, The Berkeley Symphony Orchestra in 2011, and the Islamic Art Exhibit in Fremont in 2012.  The grants range between $1,000 and $2,500. More than 40 will be awarded in 2014.

Funding for the program comes from the County of Alameda and donations to the county’s Foundation for the Arts. Non-profit organizations throughout Alameda County are eligible to apply with this form. The application deadline is March 5, 2014.

For people who are not familiar with grant applications, Arts Commission staff will host workshops in January and February.

From 3-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15 staff will guide people through the application in the Fremont Main Library.

From 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, a workshop will be held at the Alameda County Lakeside Plaza Building in Oakland

From 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, a workshop will be held at the Livermore Community Center

Reservations are required at least a week in advance of the event.  Contact the Arts Commission at artscommission@acgov.org or 510-208-9646 to RSVP.
