Fremont Symphony Orchestra performs...A Celebration of Fremont

A Celebration of Fremont

Tickets and Info: www.fremontsymphony.org / 877-938-9240

Fremont then and now—the Fremont Symphony Orchestra is the perfect
vehicle for presenting the history of our community as well as the
current energy of our citizens. We begin with silent film pianist
extraordinaire Jon Mirsalis, paying homage to the beginnings of the film
industry in Niles. Next, the Niles Canyon connection to the
intercontinental railroad is honored with Strauss’s lively polka Bahn
Frei (“Clear the Track”).

FSO’s commitment to youth and artistic education is represented by
cellist Connor Kim, winner of our 2012 Young Artist Competition, playing
Antonin Dvorak’s gorgeous Cello Concerto, of which Brahms said, “If I’d
known one could write a cello concerto like this, I’d have written one
long ago!”

Musical Visions, a multi-media presentation, celebrates 40 years of
FSO’s Children’s Concerts, showcasing not only the original compositions
from the winners of the 2013 Young Composer Competition, arranged by
Emmy-Award-winning composer Jeff Beal, but also the corresponding film
creations of Fremont sixth-graders, edited by professional videographer
Jeremy Knight. The creativity of these talented youngsters will astonish
you!

Finally, we segue into Aaron Copland’s 20th century American
masterpiece, Billy the Kid, backed by a visual representation of the
story by renowned international photographer Greg Newington, using the
Fremont community as a backdrop. Dancers from Diablo Ballet will perform
the famous pas de deux from the ballet.
