Domestic violence affects hundreds of thousands of women, men, and children each year. Due to state budget cuts, many victims no longer have access to resources that may help them or save their lives.
You can help by becoming a Domestic Violence Counselor certified in the state of California. State law requires individuals to complete 40 hours of Domestic Violence Counselor Training before they can work directly with domestic violence victims.
If you wish to participate in this training, you must be available for ALL the dates listed. Make-ups are only available on a case-to-case basis and are extremely difficult. Participation in the entire 40 hours of training is required in order to work as a direct service volunteer at SAVE. Note that the time we have allotted exceeds 40 hours, but attendance at all sessions is required to gain practical experience, as well.
Our training is reserved for applicants looking to volunteer with SAVE post-training.
Applicants who are seeking the 40-hour training for other purposes are still welcome to attend, as the training will cover all the required information for 40-hour certification; however spaces will be limited. Please submit your application form as soon as possible.
You will be trained in the following areas:
Overview of Domestic Violence, Legal Issues Surrounding Domestic Violence, Housing, Public Assistance and Financial Resources, Peer Counseling and Crisis Intervention, the Effects of Violence on Children, Mental Health of Domestic Violence Victims and Cultural Competency.
SAVE’s 40-hour Training is $300 at full price for trainees who will not be volunteering with our agency. If you plan to be a volunteer, SAVE is able to offer the training to you at a reduced cost of $75, with the commitment to 100 hours of service. You will not receive your certificate until you have completed the full 100 hours through SAVE!
