Fremont Population Grew By 1.2 Percent Last Year

New state reports shows Fremont's population now tops 219,000

Fremont's population grew by 1.2 percent last year, one of the higher rates in Alameda County.

Figures released by the state Department of Finance show Fremont gained about 2,500 residents, increasing its population to 219,926 as of Jan. 1.

Fremont is the second largest of Alameda County's 14 incorporated cities.

Oakland remains the largest city in the county with more than 399,000 residents. The smallest city is Emeryville with 10,269, just behind Piedmont's 10,889.

The only city in Alameda County that experienced a decrease in population in 2012 was Albany, which dropped by 0.2 percent.

Dublin had the second highest growth rate in California with 6.8 percent.

Alameda County's population grew by 1.2 percent to 1,548,681.

California's population increased by 0.8 percent to 37,966,471.
