The opening menu will include several savory galettes, featuring organic produce, such as roasted beets with feta cheese and arugula on whole wheat puff pastry.

They also will have the last of the season’s pie apples, using Prevedelli Farms’ organic apples in apple blackberry pies and caramel apple pies. Tarts with local organic Meyer lemon curd and dark chocolate, and a fun frosted version of a Pop Tart filled with organic blackberries. The menu changes weekly, enabling local seasonal produce to take center stage.

Niles Pie launched in 2010 after a long brewing dream and a twenty year professional hiatus from baking by owner Carolyn Berke. After two years of growing online and store distribution sales it became apparent that a dedicated kitchen and retail space was necessary. Funded by an overwhelmingly successful kickstarter campaign, an SBA loan and with business support from the SBDC the dream has come to fruition. Niles Pie Company is currently a featured success story on the Alameda County Small Business Development Center’s website. (http://acsbdc.org/node/14160)

With the move into permanent kitchen space, they are expanding in both capacity and reach by adding retail customers, more wholesale customers, more markets (both specialty and farmers’ markets) and cooking classes and private events, as well as a full bakery case of sweet and savory pies and pastry. Niles Pie offers pastry and pie catering for local events, suitable for both breakfast and lunch meetings. Niles Pie Company has created a comfortable, inviting and flexible space in the front of the house, that can also be used for events and cooking classes.
