Fremont Whole Foods Construction to be Completed Next Summer

New store will be located at the northwest corner of Mowry Avenue and Paseo Padre Parkway.

After years of seeking approval from the city, Whole Foods will be entering a Fremont neighborhood near you soon.

A 52,000-square-foot Whole Foods and retail development at the northwest corner of Mowry Avenue and Paseo Padre Parkway was approved by City Council in July 2012.

A grading permit was issued on October 19 and building permit issuance for the full project is expected within the next few weeks.

The construction should be complete by Summer 2013.

The Whole Foods building will be 39,000 square feet, and the retail shops will be 13,000 square feet.

The Texas-born marketplace known for its natural foods and organically sound products.

The original Whole Foods Market opened in 1980 with only 19 people and a mission to expand; there were only less than half a dozen natural foods stores in the U.S.

Some of their core values include Quality Standards, Organic Farming, Seafood Sustainability, Animal Welfare Standards, Caring for Communities, and Whole Trade Guarantee, as stated on their website.

I feel like the old Mervyns ad- "Open, open, open"! If Fremont could just get a Barnes and Noble I wouldn't have to take my tax dollars to San Ramon! Half Price Books is a good start. School children is the Tri-city deserve a way to buy a new book!

"Whole Foods" is the only grocery store I walked out after shopping every aisle and purchased nothing because everything and I mean everything was outrageously overpriced....

Yep, those prices are high, but you have to pick a weekly treat for yourself! Starbucks is way overpriced as well, but we'll still go there, right? One high priced selection is from the salads (to go) bar, made fresh, i.e. curry chicken salad. That has some really great stuff mixed into it. Spensive but....once in awhile.

There used to be a Barnes & Noble, Paula! It was where the Sprouts supermarket is now. Unfortunately, Barnes & Noble decided to close that location at the end of last year. The reason for the closure was because the operator of the shopping center asked for a huge raise in the rent. You might want to go and Google it. I remember it mentioned on the radio and TV. It was also in the paper. I’m sure even the Newark or Union City Patch mentioned it.
Just be happy that there is a bookstore at all in Fremont. Yes, I mean Half Price Books. Be thankful that the owner of the Hub asked and got it to move to the center.

Samson- I know it's gone. I just want it back!

I know Whole Foods is expensive but for someone living gluten and dairy free it is a necessity. Sunflower and Raleys are great but somethings I can only get at Whole Foods. Enjoy your ability to make the choice because some cant.

Trader Joe's is still and will continue to be the best place to shop.

We need a book store !!! Half Price Books does a great job.....but there is still a need for some people to hold a book, touch it, and read it.
Bookstores on the east coast combine regular books AND e books. HELP !

Book stores are not returning given the success of Amazon, online purchasing and ebook readers and tablets. I have a large library but i have turned to ebooks to keep it under control. Readers are a better way to go particularly for reading classics and many quality free books online.
There are still many books otherwise unavailable in ebook format.

"hold a book, touch it" that's ridiculously asinine

Rather harsh, don't you think?

I found that http://www.abebooks.com/ can be a better deal for used books because you can combine shipping on books from the same seller.
Often you can find a used book on Amazon and locate it on abebooks. Combining books from the same seller is much cheaper than you would get on Amazon. FYI, I found often too that if I saw a book at half priced books, I could find it cheaper online even with shipping.
