Check Out the Tesla Motors Electric Sports Car

Patch got to kick its tires during a visit to the company's factory in Fremont. Click on the video to see for yourself.

The strangest thing about the Tesla Motors electric sportscar is the storage area under the hood where the engine would otherwise be.

The car was on display during a briefing on the local economy last week at Tesla headquarters in the old NUMMI plant near Interstate 880 in Fremont.

This Patch video will give you a sense of what the electric sportscar has to offer.

What do you think about electric cars in general and the Tesla in particular?

I believe this is a Model X, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), not sports car. That was the Tesla Roadster. Although it probably handles like a lot of sports cars. I like the idea of Tesla and their products. I'd like to see them more involved in Fremont's non-profit community though. Right now they have a reputation as being elitist and unapproachable.

That's not the Model X (which has "falcon" doors) but is in fact the Model S (which is a 4 door sports car). It would be great to see Tesla involved in the non-profit community locally -- and I would bet that they will be, in time. These guys are still at a fairly precarious point in their growth and are using every dollar available (as well as loans) to grow this business. But if (when!!!) they are successful, you can be assured they will be supporting the local community.

The Roadster was their initial two-seater sportscar option, retired last year. This is the Model S four-door, 7 passenger sedan currently being produced. The Model X will be the SUV with the falcon wing doors that will be added to the product delivery options next year.

2 jump seats in the back, not three. The strangest thing is that there is no motor under the hood? You really need to check out the entire car.

I know it's just a local piece but what a joker. Has no interest or knowledge of automobiles, says there's 3 seats in the back where a 2 year old would be more accurate on that statement I think (2 seats maybe?). Thinks the frunk is the strangest thing on the car. F this guy!
