Sprouts & Shutters: Fremont Hooters To Close Feb. 24

Owners are looking for a new site closer to Interstate 880. A closing party will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24 for those who give a hoot.

The Hooters in Fremont will close on Feb. 24 as the owners look for a new site with better highway access, one of the restaurant's owner's told Patch.

"That location was underperforming," said John Trani, one of the owners of Hooters Bay Area, which also operates restaurants in Dublin, San Bruno, Campbell and Rohnert Park.

Trani said Sunday, Feb. 24, will be the last day for the Hooters at 3340 Mowry Ave.

The restaurant will hold a going away party from 2 to 5 p.m. that day to thank the community for nearly 10 years of patronage.

Trani said about 20 workers remain on staff. Others have drifted away since the company announced the shutdown about a week ago.

Trani said the Mowry site suffered because it was in an older part of town, and was a standalone location that didn't have the draw or vehicular access needed for success.

He had hoped to relocate at Union Landing in Union City — there were rumors swirling about possibly moving into the former Fresh Choice — but that deal fell through.

So the owners continue to scout for another site, ideally within 10 miles of the Fremont store, in a happening location with good highway access.
