Last Friday the section of the Mowry East Shopping Center that butts up against Interstate 880 was all but deserted.
There was some traffic at the Indian grocery store.
A few patrons exercised at Planet Fitness, while others entered the City Sports storefront to inquire about the new gym taking form in the plaza.
Will a new gym give this plaza more pep?
This was once a thriving locale, home to Cost Plus (now at Fremont Hub), Aaron Brothers Framing, Market Broiler (now at Pacific Commons) and other stores.
Now it's a great place to skateboard, play touch football or line up for soccer.
Do you shop at Mowry East? Why or why not? What would bring you back?
Too bad - this is the way it is ALL OVER FREMONT! Our city planners are not good at their jobs of planning our city shopping centers.
On a related note, this is why I think Barnes and Noble hasn't returned to Fremont, honestly people just loitered there sipping their Starbucks. So, my advice, if people want to walk around a place with books and not buy anything then they should go to the library.
