Update: Man Dies After Car Veers Off Road
A fatal car accident snarled traffic at Mowry Avenue on the Fremont-Newark border Friday evening.
A driver was killed after he veered off of the road and down an embankment near the Mowry Avenue offramp in Newark Friday night.
According to the Fremont Argus, the solo vehicle accident occurred at 6:02 p.m.
The man, who was in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His identity has not yet been released.
Newark police told the Argus that the man was heading westbound on Mowry Avenue when he abruptly swerved to the left. His car went across eastbound traffic and down the embankment before hitting a tree.
The accident snarled traffic in the area for several hours. Newark police announced that the lanes had reopened at 10:40 p.m.
