Fremont Casting Call (James Franco Film) - Afghan Man

OPEN CASTING CALL in FREMONT, CA for LEAD ROLE in feature film directed by Ian Olds, also starring James Franco & Melissa Leo.
Role is OSMAN, an Afghan male. Late 20's, early 30's (or to portray Afghan).
Sunday, Feb 16 from 9am - 3pm (come anytime during these hrs) at 39155 Liberty St, Fremont, CA 94538. Bring non-returnable photo (photo taken DAY OF audition w/a simple cell phone is best! A "snap shot" sized 3x5 " is perfect -- natural + unedited), along w/a pen + resume, if you have one. Wait time determined by turnout, so be prepared. No experience necessary! If you have an instinct to try, just come!
Accepting union + non-union submissions. No experience necessary.
ROLE: OSMAN (lead) - Charismatic 28 year old war journalist from Afghanistan who finds himself working as petty crime reporter for a small town newspaper in Northern California. Safe from the dangers of war but increasingly restless, Osman thrusts himself with wild abandon into the backwoods of this remote town. Driven by a desire to find purpose far from the conflicts of home, Osman is drawn deep into the center of this strange new world – a place where sex is casual, true friendship is hard to come by and an unfamiliar form of violence burbles up all around him. This lead role will play opposite James Franco & Melissa Leo.

When he attempts to turn his menial job on the local police blotter into "Afghan-style" coverage of local crime he gets drawn into the backwoods of this small town—a shadow Northern California where sex is casual, true friendship is hard to come by, and an unfamiliar form of violence burbles up all around him.

DIRECTOR IAN OLDS is a director of both narrative and documentary work. Directing credits include the Iraq war doc Occupation: Dreamland (released theatrically by Rumur Releasing, short-listed for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and winner of a 2006 Independent Spirit Award), Fixer: The Taking of Ajmal Naqshbandi (winner of top jury prizes at Tribeca and Madrid, acquired by HBO and nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism), and the experimental narrative Francophrenia (Rotterdam, Tribeca, True/False, Abu Dhabi, Hot Docs). Olds’ short narrative films have played numerous festivals including Sundance, Los Angeles and Clermont-Ferrand. He was awarded a 2013 Guggenheim Fellowship, a SFFS/Hearst Screenwriting Grant, and a Media Arts Fellowship sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. Olds received his MFA from Columbia University’s Film Division, was named one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Filmmaker Magazine and was a fellow at the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Lab in 2011. Olds was also the editor of the split-screen feature adaptation of William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying directed by James Franco (2013 Cannes Film Festival, Un Certain Regard).
