65-Year-Old Man Killed in Fatal I-680 Collision

The fatal accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. near the Vargas Road exit.

All lanes of southbound Interstate Highway 680 have reopened following a vehicle collision that killed a 65-year-old San Jose man in Fremont this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The four-vehicle collision, located near Vargas Road, was reported around 4:30 a.m. A Sig-alert was issued about 10 minutes later, according to the CHP.

The collision occurred when a Toyota Corolla stalled in the roadway and was struck by traffic, California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Creel said.

The driver was transported to Valley Medical Center with injuries and the passenger of the vehicle died at the scene, according to Creel.

The roadway was cleared of the collision at about 6:45 a.m., Creel said.
